In Part 5 of Rugby - Understanding the Moving Game we look at Model 2, the Pentrating Game in more detail.

We look at the technical and tactical development of this form of handling game, working on coming from a deep axis. The Coach needs to establish the main principles linked to this type of play:

1. To go forward

2. How to support by using rhythm - pass, pass, penetrate

3. Playing in the gaps between defenders

4. Brief regrouping of the attackers when momentarily stopped or slowed

5. Constant change of attacking points done quickly in order to disorganise the defence

In Part 4 of Rugby - Understanding the Moving Game we look at Model 1 in more detail.

In Model 1 the combination of penetrating play and wide play are explored. This model deals with the dynamic or moving game in open play. The players are encouraged to understand when to move from one form of play, (penetrating), to another form, (wide), and the reasons for doing so.
